# How to Become an Admin and Check Admin Status on a Facebook Page (2026)

Updated July 3, 2026 · 4 min read

To check your admin status on a Facebook Page, switch into the Page on facebook.com, open **Settings & privacy**, then **Settings**, then **Page setup**, then **Page access**. If your name appears under **People with Facebook access** marked **Full control**, you are an admin. To become an admin, someone who already has full control must add you from that same Page access screen.

Facebook retired the old Page roles (Admin, Editor, Moderator) and replaced them with access levels: **Facebook access** with full or partial control, and **task access**. Publishing tools such as [Velocity](https://www.velocity.li/facebook) require full control, because lower access levels cannot authorize connections through Meta's API.

## Check your admin status on a Facebook Page

On a desktop browser, the check takes under a minute:

1. 1Log in to facebook.com, click your **profile photo** in the top right, then click **See all profiles** and select your Page to switch into it.
2. 2Click the Page's profile picture in the top right to go to the Page.
3. 3Click **Settings & privacy**, then **Settings**.
4. 4Click **Page setup**, then **Page access**.
5. 5Look under **People with Facebook access**. Your name with **Full control** means you are an admin. A name under People with task access means you can post but not manage the Page.
6. 6If a **Business Account** is listed on this screen, the Page is managed through a Meta business portfolio. Check your access there as well (steps below).

## Facebook Page access levels: full control vs task access

The levels look similar on the surface, and both let you post. The difference shows up when you try to manage settings or connect tools.

| | Facebook access with full control | Task access |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Post and reply as the Page | Yes | Yes |
| Switch into and manage the Page on Facebook | Yes | No, only via Business Suite or Ads Manager |
| Add or remove people | Yes | No |
| Connect the Page to tools like Velocity | Yes | No |
| Old role equivalent | Admin | Editor, Moderator, Advertiser, Analyst |

There are two more variants you may see: **Facebook access with partial control**, which manages content but not people or settings, and **Community Manager access**, which only moderates live stream chats. Neither can authorize tool connections.

## How to become an Admin on a Facebook Page

There is no request button. An existing person with full control has to add you. Send them these steps:

1. 1Switch into the Page, then open **Settings & privacy**, **Settings**, **Page setup**, **Page access**.
2. 2Next to **People with Facebook access**, click **Add New**.
3. 3Click **Next**, type the person's **name or email**, and select them.
4. 4Turn on **Allow this person to have full control** if they should be an admin.
5. 5Click **Give Access**, then enter your Facebook password and click **Confirm**.

The person receives an email invitation and gets access once they accept it. Every Page needs at least one person with full control, so Facebook may block removals that would leave the Page without one.

## Check admin access in Meta Business Suite

When a Page belongs to a business portfolio, access is granted through Business settings rather than on the Page itself:

1. 1Go to **business.facebook.com/settings** and pick the business portfolio that owns the Page.
2. 2Below Accounts, click **Pages** and select the Page.
3. 3Click **Assign people** to see who has access and at which level. **Full control** listed next to your name is the admin equivalent.
4. 4To grant access, click **Add person**, enter their email, click **Next**, choose the access level, and send the invitation.

## Why Velocity asks for Page admin access

Velocity's Instagram connection runs through Meta's API, and Meta links every Creator or Business Instagram account to a Facebook Page. During the Facebook login step, Meta only lists Pages where you hold full control, so task access or no access means your Page never shows up in the connect flow.

Once your admin status checks out, the remaining steps are [switching Instagram to a Creator or Business account](https://www.velocity.li/articles/switch-instagram-to-creator-or-business-account) and [connecting your Facebook Page to that Instagram account](https://www.velocity.li/articles/connect-facebook-page-to-instagram).

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I know if I am an admin on a Facebook Page?

Switch into the Page, then open Settings, Page setup, Page access. Full control listed next to your name means you are an admin.

### Can a Facebook Page have more than one admin?

Yes. A Page can have several people with full control, and keeping at least two is safer so access is never lost.

### What is the difference between full control and task access?

Full control covers settings, people, and tool connections. Task access only covers day-to-day tasks like posting, replying, ads, and insights.

### Can I request admin access to a Facebook Page?

No. Facebook has no request button. Ask someone who already has full control to add you from the Page access screen.

### Does Business Manager access override Page access?

A business portfolio can own the Page and grant full control through business.facebook.com. Check both places if your access looks wrong.

### Why does my Page not appear when I connect to Velocity?

Usually you hold task access instead of full control, or the Page lives in a business portfolio that has not assigned it to you.

## Ready to connect your accounts?

Velocity is a next-generation social media assistant that plans, drafts, schedules, and publishes across Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, and X. Once your Instagram and Facebook Page are linked, connecting them takes one login.
